Recent Legolas's Incident #1
To @Legolas, @ArkPhaze, and @Psycho_Coder

To avoid hijacking Legolas' thread, let settle everything here.

First of all, I would like to thank Legolas for his great contribution
to the community. It is undeniable that Legolas has spent his valuable
time to make the contest, answer people questions, and share useful
resources. So, I want to be clear. I don't hate you and I think it is
the same for ArkPhaze and Psycho_Code.

I think the recent incident is small, but it seem to grow rapidly because
of some mis-communication. So, let settle down it quickly before it goes
out of hand.

There are two points in the argument.
- Perfect Solution
- Disagreement in the rule of the contest

Perfect Solution
I think "Perfect Solution" is subjective and it shouldn't affect the
winner of the contest. The winner of the contest should be based on
whether his/her solution satisfies the pre-conditon of the challenge.

In the previous post, I pointed out that perfect solution for one people
does not necessary mean a perfect solution for other. Some people might
value simplification and readability of the code while other might
value the performance of the code. So different people has different
definition of "PERFECT".

I saw you point out that using strlen() in a loop is bad. If you don't want
people to use strlen() in a loop, you can make a restriction that the solution
should be run in O(n). So those who use strlen() in a loop will violate the rule
because their running time will be O(n^2) and no point will be given.

I think giving prize to people based on what you think is not a RULE. Rule
should be clear. Soccer match winner is determined by goal, not by what judge think
which team has played better.

Disagreement in the rule of the contest
This is argument between Legolas and Psycho_Coder about the rule of the contest.
I don't disagree with Legolas about restricting to specified language. Legolas
said I did not understand, but I perfectly understand and I agree.

The thing that I disagree is to take the same problem and make it in different
language contest.

--------------------------------

Now, this is a suggestion. I think you are mature enough to take it. It does not
mean you need to take every suggestion. You don't need to close thread and make
a big drama out of feedback. If you disagree, you can just say you disagree.

Best Regards,
Visal .In
Your Unfriendly Neighbor.

RE: Recent Legolas's Incident #2
Yes I truly agree whatever you said but I have a lot more to say.

@Legolas

About this

Quote:This is argument between Legolas and Psycho_Coder about the rule of the contest.
I don't disagree with Legolas about restricting to specified language

I agree that if you want a few problems to be specific then it can be, like pointers, if you give questions regarding pointers then the user may post the solution in C or even the thread author has the right to choose the language and make it language specific and in these cases it has to be language specific. But in general I personally would prefer a contest where everyone can participate i.e. making it Language Independant. Restrictions can be put on certain problems where there may be a hack with one language for example :- Solving Ackermann's functions program with python is easy for value >4, but with other languages like C/Java it may be a bit tricky. In these cases if restrictions are put then its good because we are testing our ability to solve a problem in a different way.

I absolutely support this.

You think that what you are telling is perfect neglecting others views. Also why should others PM their solution, let it be open to all and let everyone judge and comment on the codes. It is not that you're perfect and still you're judging everyone. Before you say that "Your solution is not perfect and its wrong" just prove it by giving your reasons and clarify the other persons doubts as well. You don't give anything like that but you said its wrong, WTF ?

Let the codes be open and let others see the mistakes and criticize what you have said but you don't give them the chance and suddenly close the thread. Are you afraid of being criticized on your own comments or thinking that someone else might prove you wrong.

I am not saying that your solutions is wrong or may not be the best but why do you think that only your solution is perfect.

You closed these abruptly :-

http://www.hackcommunity.com/Thread-NEW-...-in-6-Days
http://www.hackcommunity.com/Thread-NEW-...s-Finished

why did you close them ? A user didn't even get the chance to reply for what you said.

As for an example @invisal criticized you on your thread and you removed your +4 rep rating that you had given him today as a welcome. WTF ? is this, yeah its true that its your rep and you do what the fuck you want but you removed the rep and it is an insult, atleast I feel that this is an insult. Whereas you didn't even replied or comment for what he said in the "second thread link" given above. But you removed the rep. Does it mean that you accepted that he was correct and you were wrong and hence you didn't liked it and you removed the rep for showing your anger.

You said that you are not bossy but the following shows your bossy nature :-

Quote:"I will not accept, yours and other guys , massive abusion, on my threads."

"And i say this again.
There is not a perfect sollution.
Even, if you dont like this.
That's the truth."

"If you don't want to participate, just don't do that and leave these type of comments."

"If you want to help the community, i would recommend to change this
ironic and aggressive style."

"If you want to make the wise and smart guy, just make your contests or just open your box of grievances.
Or just do not participate on Spartans'contests."

"@ArkPhaze ,
Who you think you are ?
I see an ironic and aggressive style, in most of your posts."

"I am the organizer-I set the rules."

Now a few things that are conflicting :-

You said :

"In your solutions, i see many things which are really unnecessary."

What is unnecessary ? First you explain and then tell its unnecessary.

You said :

"I will review the solutions again and i will post all the mistakes for each solution."

This means that you haven't seen the solutions well and you gave the results. Wow you're so awesome! Please teach me.

Another thing I noticed you do a lot of "SPARTANS! SPARTANS SPARTANS" Can you tell me what the hell is this SPARTANS ?

Is it a group ? Oh yes its a group.

A few citations again :

"The goals of Spartans' Contests are the learning of Members and the improvement of their knowledges."

I think each and every dedicated member of this community has the same goal of sharing knowledge with others and learning new things from others it is what we believe as a community family. So whats so special about SPARTANS' Do you teach "1 + 1 = 3" and thereby proving it ? hahahahaha

"SPARTANS - Warriors from the heart" -> Do we live in an age where we fight everyday and war is going on ? hahahaha joking Tongue

I am not flaming you or blaming you but just pointing out things that should not be there.

You give a lot of importance to group activities but as far as I know and as far as I believe an HC member is more more important than a group.

A Community member has the following duties correct me if I am wrong :-

1. Share their knowledge.
2. Respect everyone.
3. Giving credits for others work.
4. Not ripping things and being a spammer.
5. Learning from others and trying to improve every sec.

I believe that these are the qualities an ideal member should have. Its not about just group or being the group owner. Its about being just an HC Member.

There is nothing special about spartans' contest, Be simple, "Programming Contest" and its done. The contest title should be simple but your contest titles, oh my god they are so confusing, and all of them seem to be the same Tongue countless times I have opened the same thread Biggrin

Such big title for Simple contest.

"NEW || C Programming || Spartans' Contest #4 || 2 Winners || Ends in 4 Days!!! "

What is the purpose of writing "NEW", after this thread is closed and after one year if I open it will still say "NEW"

so funny.

What is the need of Saying "2 winners" -> Just tell me ?
"Ends in 4 Days" -> Why ? if it can be solved differently then why there should be a time limitation.

The good titles could have been like say, "Programming Contest : Dynamic Stack", simple and easy. Why make it difficult.

Also you gave complex Question names like this one :-
http://www.hackcommunity.com/Thread-C-Pr...t-2-Prizes

Why Reciprocating Strings when a simple `term like Palindrome exists.

hahahahah I did a little google search, everyone please see this :-

http://bit.ly/Na1SDC

What do you see ? I see nothing related to programming there but see the following result :-

http://bit.ly/Na23yT

What you see ? hahahaha every link is related to programming or math.

It was really important for me to say this but I am pointing out that things can be done simple and so why do it in a complex manner.

"1+1 = 2" and "6*8 + 56 -76 + 9 *100 - 200 - 726 = 2" as well Tongue

I really don't care about all the SPARTANS buzz but I do care a lot about dedicated members not being respected.

Like what you replied in your threads to ArkPhaze or decreasing invisal's rep.

You're the owner of the group doesn't give you the ultimate authority of everything you do.

I am telling you again I am not disrespecting you and your works just as @invisal mentioned but it is important for me to tell you the things that I believe should have been taken cared of Smile

Thank you,
Sincerely,
Psycho_Coder

RE: Recent Legolas's Incident #3
I personally don't think that for a unique challenge of his own he would be capable of grading such challenges in C/C++ for starters. He claims that certain solutions have things that are unnecessary and that he has 'perfect solution', but I have yet to see him explain or provide feedback about any submission in ANY of the previous challenges to date, even though as explained within these threads, that was his intention, and also why his 'perfect solution' is really *perfect*.

Before closing his thread, he puts this out there:
Quote:1.If you don't to participate, just don't do that.
2.In your solutions, i see many things which are really unnecessary.
(and you say that it's easy.Make it right first and then talk)
3.If you want to help the community, i would recommend to change this
ironic and aggressive style.

Having a valid opinion does not mean that one doesn't want to participate, and so @Legolas before you start putting words in others' mouths, which will inevitably result in aggravating them, I'd suggest thinking first before throwing a tantrum and closing all of these threads unnecessarily.

He also criticizes my solutions without any valid feedback whatsoever, which to be frank, I wasn't happy about; *No perfect solutions based on what I've been given, I'll provide no feedback as to why, but all the code I'm seeing is junk, let's just extend the contest for a few more days just for the heck of it*. That's not how things work, you just don't do that. If you're going to criticize the works' of others, you'd better have a reason for doing it that is clear to the end user.

I'm still waiting to see what these 'perfect solutions' are, in which are seemingly somehow better than what anyone else had posted.

1. If you can't post and explain a challenge properly and thoroughly, then don't post it, and especially if you don't like feedback about them, and you can't be straightforward with everyone who participates.
2. If you don't like feedback about your challenges why do you post them?

Legolas Wrote:Well, you said that these contests are easy.
But, in your solution i saw many unnecessary things.
So, before say something and make the wise guy, read the exercise more carefully.
And what's the meaning of "I don't see how you can deem a perfect solution " ?
If you don't want to participate, just don't do that and leave these type of comments.
I will not be held accountable to you.

Also, i will reopen the thread, and i will explain the mistakes for each solution.

I'll be waiting then, you'd better hold your word..

Legolas Wrote:just start something and leave me alone.

Seems like you think it's okay only for you to provide feedback towards others, but you can't receive it? I'll accept feedback about my code, but I have yet to see it; everything you say until then, giving me a chance to point things out as well in response, is all BS. There was absolutely nothing wrong or unnecessary about my code. I provided certain things to allow my implementation to be more easily used, so to be penalized for that, and ultimately somehow making my solution not the 'perfect solution' because of that is absolutely ridiculous.

He probably just rage quit... Even if he did off himself, I'm sorry to say it, but I don't really have too much sympathy. He seems like a great person and all, and has obviously contributed a lot to this community, but it's the Internet... What can you do?

On another note: even though I posted here, please don't drag me into this drama.

Don't worry buddy. We won't.. People who make mistakes but are unable to take criticism end up quitting. You're new and don't know much about HC. So just make yourself comfortable.
