Recent Legolas's Incident 03-13-2014, 02:32 PM
#1
To @Legolas, @ArkPhaze, and @Psycho_Coder
To avoid hijacking Legolas' thread, let settle everything here.
First of all, I would like to thank Legolas for his great contribution
to the community. It is undeniable that Legolas has spent his valuable
time to make the contest, answer people questions, and share useful
resources. So, I want to be clear. I don't hate you and I think it is
the same for ArkPhaze and Psycho_Code.
I think the recent incident is small, but it seem to grow rapidly because
of some mis-communication. So, let settle down it quickly before it goes
out of hand.
There are two points in the argument.
- Perfect Solution
- Disagreement in the rule of the contest
Perfect Solution
I think "Perfect Solution" is subjective and it shouldn't affect the
winner of the contest. The winner of the contest should be based on
whether his/her solution satisfies the pre-conditon of the challenge.
In the previous post, I pointed out that perfect solution for one people
does not necessary mean a perfect solution for other. Some people might
value simplification and readability of the code while other might
value the performance of the code. So different people has different
definition of "PERFECT".
I saw you point out that using strlen() in a loop is bad. If you don't want
people to use strlen() in a loop, you can make a restriction that the solution
should be run in O(n). So those who use strlen() in a loop will violate the rule
because their running time will be O(n^2) and no point will be given.
I think giving prize to people based on what you think is not a RULE. Rule
should be clear. Soccer match winner is determined by goal, not by what judge think
which team has played better.
Disagreement in the rule of the contest
This is argument between Legolas and Psycho_Coder about the rule of the contest.
I don't disagree with Legolas about restricting to specified language. Legolas
said I did not understand, but I perfectly understand and I agree.
The thing that I disagree is to take the same problem and make it in different
language contest.
--------------------------------
Now, this is a suggestion. I think you are mature enough to take it. It does not
mean you need to take every suggestion. You don't need to close thread and make
a big drama out of feedback. If you disagree, you can just say you disagree.
