They're paying x-amount of dollars In freight to collect a worthless case.

Try and work that out.

Ask them to justify why they require your ID card.

Have they also requested an image of your ID card to verify the signature?

They sent a guy to collect my case too, though not from UPS.
I simply played it dumb and said "I didn't request any pickup from Ray-Ban and haven't been notified of any".
My refund had been approved already and money has long since returned to my bank account.

How did he respond to that?

I had the same thing happen to me. I got an email with a UPS label attached two days after I had received my refund, saying that I could return the "parcel" - either drop it off at an access point or arrange for pickup. I obviously ignored it because I wasn't going to bother sending back an empty Ray-Bans case. Around 3/4 days later a UPS driver came to collect the parcel. Confused

He said he was here to collect a package for Ray-Ban. I told him there must've been a mistake because I certainly have no package to send. He just confusedly giggled and left.

Just as @mothered said, it's silly they'd arrange for an empty case to be shipped back to them. The cost of shipping, CO2 emissions, extra unnecessary work load... for an empty case. xD

"Oh ok, must've been an error".
He also had to deliver another parcel to me, so he didn't really bother about me refusing the pickup. He's a driver I'm in very friendly terms with.

And they even say they use UPS because it offers a "green shipping" option! xD

^ This was definitely the reason for disregarding the pickup.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
