You will need a radio transmitter and receiver which use the same frequency. Raspberry Pi will simply encode the binary data in electromagnetic waves and send it via transmitter. Your receiver will collect this data and send to your computer then your computer will decode it and view it as a picture.
There are several ways to convert data in electromagnetic waves.

I hope I could help

Thank you very much!

I don't have alot of money though, so I'll probably let it crash into the ground or use parachutes.

I will make sure I send it up a day where there's no wind at all.

On the other hand, what camera should I use?
There's one specificly for the Raspberry pi that costs $25.
The quality is not very good on it though.

I have a webcam that's HD that I can use. :3

It wouldn't cost much if you build your own transmitter.

I'm not familiar with Raspberry Pi's circuits but use tha HD one if you can.

It's just a normal USB one. It's fine.

Or what you can do is make a powerful cannon, and shoot yer pi in the sky and allow it to take pics while it decents via the parachute :epic:

That's the only way to actually get it in a orbit around earth.
On the other hand - it's hard as fuck. LOL

A simple parachute system could as the balloon rises until it pops, some form of ADD/Automatic Activation Device could help with this, can't remember where I found this.

AAD is “a self-contained mechanical or electro-mechanical device that is attached to the interior of the reserve parachute container, which automatically initiates parachute deployment of the reserve parachute at a pre-set altitude, time, percentage of terminal velocity, or combination thereof.”

I don't understand why it has to be connected to the Internet. You could hook it up to a card reader to save the Images in an SD card.

It's easier if you just send them over by SSH instead of looking for it after it has landed with the SD card, and you don't take the risk of anything breaking.

But if I can't manage to get internet for it, that's the best - or might even be the only way of recieving the photos.

I was wanting to do something similar to this as well with my pi. But then I was reading about fishpi and now I want to try and make one of those first. Lol

Adafruit sells a bunch of Pi accessories that ha e tutorials on how to interface with the devices as well so you could add gps, temperature sensors and all sorts of fun stuff. If only I had a bunch of money and some spare time lol.
