Quitting Pt.2 #1
https://sinister.ly/Thread-Quitting

Just like to share my journey and how I went. Firstly just wanted to say I'm usually one to keep to his words, however this definitely was a tough road. I'd like to keep this nice and quick as I don't have much time until I literally have to force myself to sleep for work tomorrow.

Around June was when I decided to quit smoking weed & cigarettes, the cigarette part of quitting was easy yet difficult, throughout the 4 months I can honestly say I didn't touch any smokes, even with being in a heavy smoking environment every single day (smoko breaks). Which leads to last weeks event, decided to go out and enjoy myself for once, went drinking with a bunch of friends and got absolutely smashed. Unfortnately I had a few smokes during that night which lead to me smoking for the last week entirely. It's pretty sad. I honestly thought I was doing well, just goes to show people nicotine is fucking nasty drug and I advise ANYone who is young here to please not smoke.

On the bud side of things I actually didn't quit at all (complete honesty). Reason being is I did't want to substitute weed with another drug that prevents insomnia. I wasn't going to let myself become heavily sleep deprived over weed, like cmon, it's a gem of a drug if used correctly.

Overall this thread more was to admit that I didn't do too well, alot of people say they're quitting and continue going around saying how well they're doing when they are abusing the shit out it, literally makes no sense.

Would anyone possibly have tips regarding quitting cigarettes, it's only been a week or two since I started again but without sounding like an addict I've felt less stressed and overall better. I went out and purchased a vape a few days ago, hasn't helped at all.

Well, first off I would like to say that upon reading the name of this thread, I thought you were about to say something about you leaving SL for good, I am glad that is not what the thread was about. Unfortunately my mom passed away in 2012 due to smoking. She started when she was 12 years old before they had an age limit on it, when she was about 38, she went to the hospital, and they told her that she had the lungs of an 80 year old. The last 2 months of 2010 were bad, she was in the hospital about 2-3 times in those 2 months, the last time she was there in December,  the doctors told us she only had 6-8 months to live, and she survived 18 months! She had COPD, and Asthma really bad. Growing up around this was not the best, so I made a pledge when I was young that I will NEVER smoke a day in my life.

Here is something I suggest, one of my really good friends broke me of being ticklish, this is going to sound weird, but its not.when he would go to tickle me, he would tell me "Mind over matter" he would also say "the brain is so powerful". So, my suggestion is, just tell yourself over and over that you are going to stop smoking. Now, I can't say that I know how hard it is to stop smoking, but I know it is extremely hard. Have you tried those nicotine patches? I have found a website that might help you out. Check it out here. I had a friend that his dad would take matches and just put the stick part in his mouth, and just hold it in between his teeth for a while, and apparently that helped him quit. Check them out here. I hope that you can quit smoking man! Best of luck to you Smile.

In terms of cigarettes, you must (and I reiterate "must") be ready to quit- mentally. No Ifs or buts about It.

I'm talking from experience. I was a very heavy smoker and I made ever excuse In the book, ranging from "I'll do It on my birthday or my New Years resolution" etc, but they were simply excuses. The day came that I was 100% mentally ready and simply threw my cigarette packet away, and haven't touched a smoke (not one puff) In 10 years. It was very hard to top abruptly without patches and the like, but I did It and I'm very proud of my will power.

Thanks for this reply, appreciate the lengths you've gone. Especially if this is from previous experiences also.

You're welcome.

I do suggest however, to use patches when In the process of quitting smoking. I did It without, but that was a bad error on my part. Not only was It very difficult, but I also became quite sick. My doctor said I should not have quit abruptly the way I did.

On another note, you should consider using a vaporizer. They make them for both e-liquids and dry herbs, depending on what you're after. Vaporizers will still strain your lungs, but they're significantly better.
