I'm against this, as MiS said; warnings are given for a reason and they're temporary anyway.

I'm inclined to lean towards not liking this idea. It's very "pay to play"-ish. Perhaps some type of appeal system for a warning if it was in fact a once-in-a-while slip up. Of course that would probably eat up staff time, so there's pros and cons to everything.
if this system were implemented I agree there needs to be restrictions/limits. There doesn't seem to be an issue with ass-hat users on this forum right now, but with growth that may change.

Really against this, it's essentially buying a "Get out of jail free" card for something that is:
A) Temporary
B) Only seen by the user and staff
C) Only given for breaking the rules
and therefore I don't think there should be any way at all to get out of a warning, especially not paying. People who get warned must have broken rules to do so, and therefore should have to just wait it out.

If there is an aversion to the warning thing, a non-formal, PM notification of rule violation is probably sufficient, especially in the occasional "oops I slipped up" sense. Actual legitimate "warning level" warnings should then be issued in a formal sense, after attempts to course-correct and coach have proven unhelpful. The number of "informal" warnings before a "formal" one is not up to me, but this is one way yo accomplish both goals, without buying a reduction in warning level.
