im attempting to crack a wpa2 encryption of a neighbor, and when i do the command ''airodump-ng start wlan0" it will scan 'and find a few connections. The one i need though the BSSID says "not associated" and only shows the mac address. I know the connection is close enough, its average 80-99% strength and i can connect...if i knew the passkey. Could i get some help please? Im new to wifi cracking honestly.

actually check this out i have a belkin wireless n usb thta supports packet injection but i prefer orinico gold pcmcia with a yagi but if you need help give me my rep here you go download wifiway its in spanish but who cares open up feeding bottle have a nice day can ihave my rep it will chew wep apart in 10 minutes if you dont know aircrack

i was using a laptop with a wireless card that supports wlan0/monitor mode.

I've cracked a lot of WEPs but I have never even attempted WPA although I do know how to do it.

By the way the mac address of the router is it's BSSID. I think you mean it's not showing the ESSID which is the plaintext name of the routers wifi.
Example: StarbucksPublicWifi would be an ESSID.

When you run airodump try airodumping only for the specific network you want to monitor.
So first run a basic dump with:
airodump-ng mon0
Then when you have the info about the certain network you want to attack monitor that network specifically:
airodump-ng -c 11 -bssid 00:12:24:45:45:22 -w file mon0

where -c is the channel
-bssid is the target routers mac address
-w file you want to output all the data you collect into (three way handshakes will be saved in here)
mon0 network interface name


I notice when you monitor a network specifically and not ALL the networks in the vicinity airodump gathers more data. And also shows whos connected to the target network more acuratly.
