Anime New Network have been making a few posts about the last few decades of anime and in one such posting, they are talking about some of the best shows from 1996. That's pretty close to the time I was born, so it was interesting to look at shows almost as old as me, that are still kicking!

Full Article Here

Some of the shows mentioned are:

Rurouni Kenshin

Sailor Moon (lol)

X: 1999

Are there any shows you watch that are from around that time also?

[Despised]

Yes, about Sailor Moon. Some people consider it as a masterpiece, myself excluded.

I've never actually seen it. I know it had huge influence on future anime, but it was just never looked interesting for me, even when I was little.

Ranma 1/2 was released over 25 years ago, yet isn't in the list. What a horrible job done.

Rurouni Kenshin was an awesome one, although it's >50 episodes. One of my long time favorites.

It's all relative to who's posting it and how aware they are of the shows that are out there.

Feel free to add suggestions! I doubt the article is even close to a comprehensive list!

I haven't seen the one you mentioned but I certainly recognise it and have seen it pop up on various sites nowadays.

The show did have questionable content, maybe that's why. They managed to mix in a good amount of comedy without ruining the story, what a great example of art. Or perhaps it just feels that way because I watched it in my young years, I'm not sure.

I might get back to this thread later.

I feel like anime was a little more diverse and less prone to cliche back in the 80s/90s although that could just be my perception. I know there's lots more of it being released at a faster rate now, so perhaps that's why it looks like there's less originality?

Sure, I'll be interested in any more you have to share on this topic.

Sailor Moon was one of my favorites.

Now to test all you Anime fans out there. Who remembers these (not quite 20 years, but still somewhat nostalgic):

* Mike, Lu & Og.
* Kim Possible.
* I am Weasel.
* Ed, Edd n Eddy.
* Pepper Ann.
* Cat Dog.

I do, but they're western cartoons, not anime.

Dragon Ball is also quite popular, should fit the criteria.
