Otaku SAO & Eternals Crossover Poster

Disney's Japanese Youtube account recently released a crossover trailer between the new Marvel Eternals film, and the Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night anime film. Marvel Studios and the SAO team joined forces to create this promotional video as they claim each film is telling a very similar story: The beginning. Check out the video below.Source

Following on from this commercial, Thermae Romae manga creator Mari Yamazaki created a crossover poster which was then approved by Marvel's cast for Eternals. Each actor approved the drawing of their own characters before it was released.

With them recently collaborating with Hololive and SAO, it definitely seems like they're targeting anime:

The Hololive one is very funny. I guess they're trying to reach a specific audience. Aka - Target Lock: Otakus.

This is not at all surprising. Even in the US, various manga have topped the sales charts consistently this year. Its outselling comics by a fair margin.

Japanese anime/manga is massively popular in the US. It's pretty "normal" now. It's starting to head that way more in the UK. Music stores stock Japanese snacks and I keep overhearing teens asking their parents to get the Pocky and Mochi xD
