I don't think they are going to send you the item if you send them an empty box.

I believe they won't.
I believe that on these products there is really a technical assistance that tests and fixes it.
I could try to make a box with a light content (like any product weighing about 5-600gr) and I would make a nice sign of false tampering with the package so if in case they check I always have a plan B saying that they have opened it in transit .
That way they can never ascertain that I am not sending them anything
