i just find it fun to explore in packers, i don't recommend using NETz at all though, it basically zips the application you want & adds in as a resource to an application which will then load the zip contents.

a good one that i've made an unpacker would be 4dots EXE Locker, im pretty sure you can edit some small stuff to make it harder to unpack (i havent cracked the application since i have a hard time with 4dots's softwares, but the "locker" isn't obfuscated, thats how ive been able to make the unpacker (the unpacker is also open source).

yes, they atleast encrypt the content you want to protect, heres the github of the unpacker
