Just curious, They didn't reply to PP and you won, and then they marked the order as disputed?

Yep, their automatic system must have detected the funds were charged back, they didn't answer to the pp case at all.

Since it appears this is patched for the time being, here's my findings from an attempt dating back in November

Microsoft responded 1 week into my PP claim, I submitted dispute under INR and photoshopped an image saying that Microsoft customer service offered no resolution. I also submitted a tracking number for an old FTID that indicates it was delivered to a different address.

2 weeks later, I won the PP case and they indicated Microsoft's tracking number was invalid

Patched? I can confirm it still worked as late as of january, and according to some posts on this topic I'm not the only one this worked for recently.
Are you perhaps in the US? It seems that from the start US disputes were way more checked than EU ones.

I tried to get a PR but they just sent me an email stating the onus is on the seller to raise it as a crime. I sent that email to PayPal and told them I had still been trying to contact MS but had no joy. I also asked them whether they’d heard back from them yet. They just refused the claim and closed the case

Incompetent employees. I am surprised the email wasn't sufficient.
