On completion, please contribute.

No rush, whenever It's finalized I'd love to view It.

Of course I will. I'm not a huge fan of the 'current' style of userbars mainly the modern types but that's just cause I'd rather have my own style than a glorified copy of someone else's modern design if you feel me.

Definitely so.

In general terms (not targeting yourself), plagiarism to any extent, gets you nowhere and only lowers your standards as an artist. You're certainly on the right track. Well done.

As of the time It became a subscription-based service, It changed the views of many consumers/end users. Rather than paying a ridiculous annual fee, they've opted for similar alternatives.

They certainly have. I would love to be able to just use one of the older versions, but that's a complicated process in and of itself. I remember, my old university refused to upgrade to the latest version (CS7 at the time I think) due to sheer expense.

With good reason. If you're doing it as a university the price eventually reaches something you don't want to spend without knowing how many people will use it and how long it'll take to pay itself off.

That is a very good point! And it usually a concern for most things institutions pay for beyond instruction and facilities.

I could understand if they had a contract of some sort for 50 copies for 50 university desktops but honestly, they have a better chance of just allowing the students to use the Adobe discount and having it as part of their tuition (For that current class) so that students mid year will have to pay some of those fees. Would get rid of a lot of useless spending on their part.

While you have a good point, that actually depends on the country and system. The university I was specifically talking about, was an English one, when tuition was capped. So they couldn't charge it as part of tuition unless the government subsidizes it, which they wouldn't. It would come under the department's budget. However, that would be true for a US university where they provide a graphic design course. Though, that means ONLY graphics students can utilize it if they're the only ones paying for it.

Yeah fair enough. I don't know the difference between US and UK uni in terms of classes and tuition. It's probably possible to have a fundraiser or something to help with costs like that but who knows. Having it as part of class fees seems like the more reasonable option in accordance with the class's budget.

It's more to do with government (state/federal) etc as to how institutions get funded. Private universities could do fundraisers etc for sure!

A lot of departments actually do include it as part of course fees. Though, in US public universities, they have to have that sort of thing approved. Most institutions have to justify every single penny they spend, and every penny they charge. xD Still, back on topic: software is a bitch to come by in an affordable and legal way - Good job on the userbar

There should totally be a lounge for this type of talk to be honest. I like talking back and forth about various things but never find the right thread to do so
