So, if its not blatantly obvious, I'm a bit of a DOS junkie. I enjoy experimenting with the outdated OS, and making it do things it was never meant to do. A little while back, I spent some time seeing if I could get MS-DOS to connect to the internet via lan. I considered dial-up as this machine does have a dial up modem, but we don't have dial up here, and with our current DSL setup, I don't think dial up even works. However, the lan card in this machine does have DOS ODI drivers. You might think with drivers, it would be a walk in the park, trust me, its not. Everything has to be manually configured.

1. You have to install the drivers
2. Then they have to be added to autoexec.bat and config.sys
3. The drivers themselves have to be configured.

I'll admit, networking is not one of my strong suits. I'm used to most networking being fairly automated. This however, had to be set. Manually. Right down to the hardware interrupt. So after a few hours of tinkering, googleing (Documentation on DOS networking is scarce, even though later versions of the OS did support it) I managed to get the drivers up an running, and my router to see the machine.

But my trouble didn't end there. I load up the dos version of LYNX, a text based web browser, and nadda. Nothing. Times out. So I spend the next 45 minutes scratching my head trying to figure out why LYNX isnt working. On top of the drivers being configured, LYNX has to be configured too! So finally, after about 2 days of trying (I'm very stubborn) It works!

TL;DR: I made MS-DOS connect to the internet.

Native. Although I'm using an enigmatic release of MS-DOS, called MS-DOS 7.10. From what I can tell, it was a special order version of dos for people who bought windows 95, but I can't confirm this. All I know is I use it because it comes on a CD.

I miss those days. Some of my personal favs are CMOS Dead, Techno, and LSD. All of which I have samples for.

I wasn't even around for half of it (well pretty much all of it), but, my favourite viruses for DOS are:

I really don't know, since I only use LYNX. I have tried some graphical browsers like Archane, and it was fairly slow. Trying to load modern pages on 128MB of ram is a bit too much for this machine.
