John Lewis or Currys #1
Has anyone been successful with the partial/manufacturer error/empty box method with UK companies such as John Lewis or Currys?
I know this method works well with Amazon, but I was wondering if anyone had tried it with some other companies.

John Lewis tends to go through claims with a fine-tooth comb when using the missing Item/partial method. Moreover, they have CCTV cameras In operation.

You're better off hitting Currys.

John Lewis = DNA only - They usually use the same delivery method/ service as amazon - My delivery label even had amazon written on it, but instead of amazon packaging, it was JL
I tried eb/ manufacturer error with them and i basically got laughed at

Currys/ pc world you can get away with missing item or eb because sometimes the items you buy from the currys website is shipped from a different supplier (dropshipped)
example:
Go on currys/ pc world website.
You buy a cpu from the currys/ pc world website
The cpu is shipped from overclockers.co.uk (pc world will not tell you this)

I know this is true because I ordered multiple items and they came like this.

Thanks for the info.

Do you know if John Lewis have started using the one time password system that Amazon are using for higher value items?

And do you know if EB would work for something like airpod pros from Curry's?

Heres my experience with both companies.

JL -
Wouldn't EB them at all. Will fail.
Wrong item - Good method i think, they will investigate a little. But will offer the option to resend for return of the wrong item. (Will bill you if you dont return!)

Currys -
Wrong item - Works.
EB - Works
If using paypal (which you should, so you have another safety should the refund fail with the retailer), always start with going to currys direct. It will be a lengthier process, but the end result will be the same, they'll ask you to send the item back to them (if using wrong item received) - this way, you basically protect your paypal account from having too many claims.

They do have CCTV cameras In operation, so be careful when using the wrong Item received.

After a lot of back and forth on live chat, they told me that it’s not possible, and that they have checked everything. Told me if I want I call to speak to someone, I said yes, they gave me number and told me “good luck Smile”

I done a cpu from pc world. Told them manufacturer error. They sent a replacement (they don’t ask if you want a refund) but they wanted the original empty box back. On both occasions the item didn’t look like it came from pcworld/ curry’s. I returned the cpu saying that the replacement took too long to arrive and that I found it cheaper on Amazon (which it was)

It was an Apple Watch from John Lewis. No password or signature was required. Thinking back on it, I should have just dna’ed it. Would have worked.
Someone else here on the forums dna’ed John Lewis because the item was left at the front door with no signature (amazon style sometimes) - perfect for dna

They're difficult to deal with at the best of times.

Did you contact them via the number they gave you?

No because the guy I was speaking to on chat basically gave the impression of that he knew what was going on and that was not going to work.
I had a similar experience trying with argos previously so didn't bother going through with the call.

Argos on the other hand is amazing for boxing returns. Done a keyboard and 2 nvme drives. I walked in store and returned them.
