Is it really fair? 06-26-2013, 12:30 AM

So I just want to discuss this topic real quick ...
Let's say you purchase graphics from someone. Should you have to pay the designer up front or no?
Scenario;
You ask the designer to make a logo. They agree and ask you to pay $10.00 for it and you guys make the deal. They spend time and effort making the logo but you purchase one from someone else, make your own, or you don't like it.
Should the designer still get paid or not? They did take time and effort into making it, but should they pay if you don't use it?

It's not fair really. You made the graphics with your time, and I don't know why you wouldn't get paid. I suggest telling him to pay half price up front, then pay the other half when you're finished. Some people I know do that.

No, you should make the payment after the design is done. It also gives the designer an incentive to trying to make a logo you WILL like. Anyone can just half-ass a design not caring because they were already paid and they have nothing to lose.

Well, time is money, so they should at least get a quarter to half the amount discussed for their efforts. Unless of course they just slapped something together and it doesn't look to good, then you shouldn't be buying from them in the first place.

I think you should pay half up front and finish the payment if you like it. If you don't like it, get half of what you paid up front back.

No.
I think a customer should be able to see/pick what work he pleases. If he didn't choose your work, he shouldn't have to pay. Sorry but I think that's the fairest option.

I believe if the criteria the client provides isn't met then you shouldn't be paid. Especially if they aren't even going to use your work. Just have to be the best there is.

If it violates your TOS, you can dispute him, you should think before doing it.
