Installing a Virtual Machine inside a hidden virtual TrueCrypt volume #1
Today I'm going to explain how to install a Virtual Machine inside a hidden virtual TrueCrypt volume. If you are new to TrueCrypt and you haven't read my tutorial on how to create this type of TrueCrypt volume I suggest you do that first.

Requirements
What is a Virtual Machine?
Quote:A virtual machine (VM) is a software implemented abstraction of the underlying hardware, which is presented to the application layer of the system. Virtual machines may be based on specifications of a hypothetical computer or emulate the computer architecture and functions of a real world computer.

Step 1: Open VirtualBox

Step 2: Modify VirtualBox settings

Go to File > Settings and set "Default Machine Folder" to your hidden TrueCrypt volume and click OK

Step 3: Create the virtual machine

Click NEW in the VirtualBox toolbar and follow the steps

Step 4: Machine memory

Set how much memory you will dedicate to the virtual machine. Keep in mind that the amount of memory you set will be dedicated to the guest machine and will not be available to the host while the guest machine is running.

Step 5: Virtual Hard Disk

Make sure that "Create a new hardisk" is selected.

Step 6: Virtual disk file type

Leave / set this to should be VDI (Virtual Disk Image)

Step 7: Disk size behaviour
Spoiler:

A virtual disk image can be either fixed size or dynamically allocated.
  1. Fixed size means that the size you set for the VDI in the next step, will be the amount of space it will always take up on the host
  2. Dynamically allocated means that the VDI will never be larger than the actual used space used by the virtual machine + whatever content you download or install
Personally I prefer dynamically allocated, but this is really all up to you

Step 7: VDI Path & Size
Spoiler:

Make sure that the VDI is saved in your hidden TrueCrypt folder and set the virtual disk size you want. This cannot be higher than the size of the hidden TrueCrypt volume

Step 8: Complete the setup

The final steps now are just confirmations on that the VDI and Virtual Machine has been created successfully. Now you install the distro of your choice on the newly created virtual machine.

Final words

I hope you found this tutorial helpful. If you have any comments or questions do not hesitate to leave a reply and I will do my best to answer.

Is a Virtual PC not more actual and 'better'

by EaseUS BackUp I create a Virtual PC, but I had to use 'tool' to use it from my OS. :Innocent: Tricky
