While I see your point, and agree with it to a certain degree, I believe your theory is flawed.

For a poor person, money = happiness, simply because most of, or at least the most important, issues they have in their life could be solved by having money.

For example being able to put food on the table, paying rent, etc.

But as you aquire more wealth, the issues in your life that don't link to money will become more apparent, and thus money will be less detrimental to wheter or not you are happy.

in order for you to say that you'd have to be making millions and have a bunch of assets. Other wise you aren't in any position to say that.

I definitely agree with this.

Many years ago (20+), a close relative won the lottery and due to the Influx of funds, he had no Idea on how to live a normal and healthy lifestyle. He subsequently suffered stress and anxiety- namely due to the sudden change In life.

From a different viewpoint, what solidifies the fact that money can't buy happiness, Is those who're suffering a terminal Illness. No matter how much money they may have, It cannot do anything to their condition.

True but I still believe that the saying originated from a rich mans tongue which then became the saying of everyone else.

Don't get me wrong, If you have everything going for you (good health, the same with your relationship and so forth), money will certainly buy happiness- particularly when a huge mortgage and financial hardship Is part of the equation.

Nothing beats the liberty of not having financial concerns. But on the flip side, It cannot do a single thing when you've told you have 3 months to live.

I've known a few people that have terminated their marriage due to financial Issues, and one person even contemplated suicide.

It doesn't seem like money is what creates happiness. Sure, when someone receives money, they can do things that create temporary happiness but there is also the aspect of providing. A man who buys himself an expensive meal will be satisfied for the day, but a man who buys his family a meal, will be satisfied for life. This is because the money from happiness comes for providing for others. It's comes from the good that can be done with it. Money is a heavy tool, if used correctly, it can build cities, if used poorly, it can ruin lives forever.

Until the legal system takes both hypothetical meals away from him, leaving him with no kids to feed it to, an ungrateful ex-wife, constant depression, a developed drinking issue, and a strong desire for the money he once had.
