How does DDOS software really work? 01-30-2013, 04:21 AM

Hey,
I am writing a "DDOS Program" and I have a simple version, but I can barley tell if it is doing anything. This may be because it isn't really all that effective but here is what my program does.
Load UDP Library
Set's peer name to host and port of the victim
Sends strings of text, normally really long, and lasting about 10 seconds.
Is this a good method? Is this how it really works?
Can someone give me a detailed explanation on how a DDOS program really works, and what I can do to make it better once it does what it is supposed to do. This is going inside my "Toolkit" which I will be giving away to HC once it has enough tools.
Note: The same for TCP? I figure it would be more effective since you can't loose a packet like you can with UDP.
