Is the serial number method, just scouting for a S/N that is not registered to an account then proceeding with trying to get a replacement?

That's one way of doing It, or you'd claim ownership of the device that the serial number belongs to.

Alternatively, you can say you've received the device as a gift.

found one, contacted reps, they told me that its linked to an account, asked the person on facebook marketplace if it actually is and they said no, so kind of stuck
