Good excuse for roommate seeing I have a new item?

No need to try and justify a purchase to a roommate. Don't say you've won a competition, what happens when you want other stuff? You keep winning things?

He should mind his own business really. He's your roommate not your accountant.

Can't recall ever needing to explain the affordability of things I've bought to anyone I've ever lived with. Just say you saved money and bought it, the end.

As long as your behavior does not have a negative Impact on your roommate, there's no need to explain every move you make.

It really depends on the item tbh. Certain explanations I could think of might make perfect sense for a pair of shoes, but make zero sense for a video game.
