Free Public WiFi Exposes You To Hackers #1
Greetings everyone,

This pretty much states the obvious, but those who're unaware of the risks when using public WiFi, should take this under advisement and put security measures Into practice to ensure data safety. And no, It doesn't take an "IT expert" (as stated In the site) to figure this out.

Quote:Mr Oluseyi Akindeinde, an IT expert on Friday warned people to beware of using free WiFi because it enabled hackers to have easy access their personal data.

“Nowadays when people go for events or lodge at hotels, they don’t care about the food and drinks but to have free access to public WiFi.”

“Using free WiFi exposes the consumer to hackers and in the process they get to view personal information like bank details, credentials and so many other things.

too bad there isnt a 100% proof firewall, perhaps with AI coming, there will be further development in this area.

Yes, this has been a serious issue and still is. The problem is that they don't care what they have to do for free Wi-Fi. For example, many Wi-Fi networks in restaurants and stores have some kind of thing you have to do before accessing the network. For example, you might need to like their page on Facebook, you might need to share on twitter that you've been there, but usually they require something.

Now it's pretty easy to spoof a Wi-Fi network, redericting all traffic to your own AP, while blocking the other. Then you could basically let them do the same thing, but do something malicious before/after. You could also scan all HTTP traffic which would be a major concern if they try to open other apps that require a connection.

They'll have to come with something good soon anyway, though I thought WPA-3 was released. Unfortuntly with quantum computing and machine learning most of these cryptographic solutions would be easy to crack.

Nothing Is 100% and never will be.

There's always a way to circumvent a given entity.

Agree.

I've always stood by my motto of "If It can be done, It can be undone".
