Ah, I misread, didnt see it was bash, me and my global reading hehe..
I see, I just finished installing archlinux in virtualbox, configured the GUI with help from a tutorial etc
Alright, ill go and see wich id prefer, perl or python, still I wonder, this might be asking the same thing twice but I didnt understand,
apart from studying Perl or Python, would it also be okay to learn bash with it? Or does this define learning two programming at the same time? Thanks for all the help by the way, much appreciated

I think Im just in love with the idea so to speak, id settle for writing small programs that could tweak everyday performance, as long as Id also have the knowledge to write more heavy applications

I would say start with Python or Perl. Both are scripting languages, considered easy to learn and your scripts can be used platform independend.
Perl is especially good with text processing tasks and it allows you several ways to solve things. You always have more than one way to write the same, because the language inventor was a linguist and thought it would be cool if you can not only speak differently, but also write your code differently.
Python on the contrary has one way to accomplish things, what makes it easier to read other people's code.

It is possible to make larger applications with these languages, but others are a bit better suited for them. I.e. for 3D games that need heavy computation you go better with C++.
That's actually the case with most popular languages. You can use them for almost everything, but it will be easier or more efficient with some languages than with others.

So don't hesitate to learn Perl or Python or something else that seems right for you. It is important that you learn how to program. Once you think like a programmer it is much easier to learn other languages.

Ah I played with batch before, It would be as good a place as any to start I guess, should i solemly focus on this or could I focus on python or another language meanwhile also?

Batch is Windows only. You said you want to learn how to do stuff in Linux, so I wouldn't learn Batch.
I am not sure if it was a typo. @MrGeek talked about Bash, not Batch. Bash as scripting language is limited to Bash the Unix shell. It can't be used for big applications. It can only be used to automate and configure tasks on *nix systems. But as MrGeek said it is nice to learn while learning Linux. They go hand in hand, so to speak.

Don't try to learn several languages at a time. That confuses you and you will be slowlier learning things. Concentrate on one language first.

*edit* Differences apart from Java beeing more web-based and C++ more for uhm, games and such? I mean, will you be able to do different things using Java instead of php? Or do different things using C instead of Python? (Might be the last comparison is dumbfounded because Im a noob, maybe python is also more web-based..)

You probably won't program a microcontroller in Python, or a driver, or a kernel. That requires something closer to the metal like C.

Java can do everything PHP can, but a lot of things are done with fewer lines in PHP. PHP is used for web only, whereas Java is best with embedded programs, but also used on desktop and for enterprise applications.

Though, you can't just upload .py files on your webserver, you've first got to configure it properly.

All Deque said is right, Perl or Python are good points to start. To build small or great scripts from them is up to you. A great Perl script on my mind is Slowloris.
