First Person Vaccinated 12-08-2020, 01:17 PM

In the UK, a 90 year old Northern Irish lady was the first person to be vaccinated today (outside of trials). The nurse nominated to administer this vaccination was a phillippino nurse. This was a nod to the number of phillippino nurses who work for the NHS and some of who died fighting the virus on the front lines. It's also an acknowledgement that while our NHS is a UK healthcare system, it is supported internationally by staff and researchers from all over the world.
The UK was one of the first nations to approve the pfizer-biotech vaccine and this first vaccination is the start of the government's mass vaccination plans. They will be prioritizing care home staff and residents, followed by NHS staff, at risk groups, over 60s, over 50s, then those below. This list of people will be vaccinated as time goes on, well into 2021 depending on operational and logistical challenges.
