Favorite programming language thread #1
Tell us your favorite programming language!

Put the name of the language, and a description of why you like it.

I'll go first:
My current favorite language is C. I have a few reasons for this, one of which is you can see and understand what you are doing. Another is that C es one of the fastest languages out there because it is simple and compiled. I'm gonna leave it here, because other people (cough @phyrrus9 @Hoss) can explain C's benefits better than I can.

Spoiler:
Another language that I like is Brainfuck.
Brainfuck is a Turing-complete language with only 8 instructions! It is also easy to make compilers and interpreters for, which makes it great for learning how to make compilers (without dealing with all the normal language analysis that you have to do). You can even make a CPU that uses Brainfuck for the instruction set. Once you get used to it, it makes sense and is easy to understand.

TL;DR: Brainfuck is great Tongue

Python because it is great for quickly creating prototypes and small scripts.

I will always love and hate C#, it was my first "real" language, with that said I enjoy learning other languages but, sometimes the strictness I learned from C# sets me back and I have to try and break the habits I developed, in order to actually use another language.

Go is by far my favorite language for MANY reasons.

1.) It integrates SO easily with C it's ridiculous, you can even embed C code IN A GO SOURCE FILE!

2.) It's GCed. This is a bad thing to a lot of people, but since I'm not doing game dev and I'm not programming a NASA rover, it just makes my life easier.

3.) `go fmt` This is an official tool of the Golang project that will format your code for you according to the Golang style guidelines. COOLIO!

4.) It's not Java

5.) The standard library is epic, almost everything you need and it's all clean.

6.) It runs everywhere like C and you can compile for other OSes/platforms on a different OS/platform.

7.) It's concurrency pattern. Simply amazing. The runtime manages thousands or millions of Goroutines on a small set of OS threads, making it very efficient.

8.) It's not Java

My favorite is Java.

Why? Because I want to be that guy.

I'm in a love-hate relationship with C. On one hand, it's so incredibly simple that all the confusing abstractionary bullshit from higher-level languages fade away and make sense. On the other hand, strings.

If I had to pick a favorite, disregarding any and all practicality, I'd say either Perl (because it's fun to mess with people, and it's surprisingly good at processing files) or Ruby (simply because there's ALWAYS another 10 ways to do anything). Go, as detailed below, is definitely up there, though.

I'm making another big-ish project with Go at the moment, and I forgot how much I loved this language. Everything that comes from a Google engineer is so incredibly well-designed it blows my mind sometimes. I'm actually not too familiar with integrating C into it, though. Would a tutorial be possible?

I mean, you say that...

Tied with other people who got my score, I ranked 36th internationally (probably the first placed Caucasian) and I wrote the entire contest in Perl Tongue
I probably would've done much better, but I got stuck for a while due to mixing up the "length" and "scalar" functions.

I'm kidding Tongue

Perl is just very ugly.
