How does saying you haven't received something you've signed for work?

Simply stated, the empty box method.
You've received the package, signed for It and upon opening the box/package a little while later, the Item was missing. Be aware that In most cases, the consignment Is weighed during transit.

Thanks for the reply. Technically though, they can't prove you've received the item. How do they know it reached your hands inside the package? Regardless of the weight being on there it's your word against their word.

If you had to sign for the package, you can tell them the box was empty. But ensure that the weight has not been registered anywhere before you do this. If you have a box with 2 items in it, you could always say that x is not in it.
