Hello Sinisters

My PC seems to suddenly freeze for no reason.
I did all sorts of tests such as

MEMTEST to see if RAM might be faulty or something also tests came out just fine no probs with RAM also Re seated it just to make sure.
I thought its the Operating System problem. Reinstalled Win7 same, Win8.1 same, Win10 same, LINUX works little better but still same even tho the freezes are way shorter on linux than on windows. But that is obvious because Linux use less resources.

Last conclusion was that hard drive is dying
Did check HDD no Bad sectors nothing damaged seems to be working fine.
Did all sorts of tests and all came out positive that HDD is fine but what I am worried about its (clicking sound) every time it clicks PC tends to freeze. Even tho all tests show that HDD is working fine. Surface tests came out all greens not even yellows. So I am really confused.

Some said it could be Power Supply clicking and make PC lagging but seems not true for me.

So guys anyone has any ideas why is this happening? I am really frustrated..
Most worried part that HDD seems fine but Click = Freeze.

Real problem is without diagnostics or a log, it could be anything essentially.

As far as HDD goes, try booting off something besides the HDD, if your computer supports it.
Besides that, you can load windows or whatever OS your flavour is and try it instead, if it still freezes, the problem isn't the HDD.

Just remembered that got old HDD might try to replace with my current one put OS on it and see if problem persists or not.

What alarmed me here, Is when you've mentioned the "clicking sound" and then your system freezes. Around a year ago, I experienced the exact same and upon changing the HDD, all Is fine. The HDD couldn't read the tasks performed, hence the clicking, hence the freezing. I see you've mentioned you're going to try another hard disk. I'd be very Interested to read the results.

It could be, but until you test a different HDD can't know for sure it's an HDD issue in the first place.

The "clicking" you are hearing is the drive repeatedly attempting to reread bad sectors. The drive is likely failing. Backup and replace the drive. The smart tools arent always accurate either.

It could be, but until you test a different HDD can't know for sure it's an HDD issue in the first place.

Replaced with the HDD that I've found and seems that my HDD is really dying because the one I put in now seems to be running well no freezes nothing just a bit slower since it is quite old but I think it will do for some time till I get new Hard Drive. Quite disappointing that 1TB drive died faster than 320GB old one which I have for around 5 years now.

Also a question, I got lots of Laptop HDDs is it okay to mount them in to PC and use it as normal HDD? Just a question I was curious about.

You can. Laptop drives use SATA as well. However, make sure you have the proper mounts for the smaller form factor, as excessive vibration is bad for mechanical drives.
