It depends on the weight of the CPU, namely whether It registers on the carrier's manifest.

What Is the weight of "next to nothing?".
A CPU measures approx 4cm x 4cm except for things like Threadripper which are larger , and weights in the region of 44-46 grams.
Small update after some gentle probing of a few companies.
SCAN and Ebuyer are both a NO , Both are too specialist for this sort of thing.

Perfect for the missing Item method, or boxing without a weight substitute.

Why might that be?
That Is, on what grounds will they possibly decline the claim?

I tried the same method with both , i posed as a customer (minus giving an order number) and stated i'd received a box with the processor missing and a slit all the way round the plastic window that shows it at the top , and that someone has clearly stolen it. They replied saying impossible, CCTV in the warehouses all the way to dispatch, and that if the outer box was not tampered with, then no way the cpu was stolen.
There are plenty of other ways to experiment however

My goodness, I can't fathom how they believe they've justified the above. They're clearly missing the point.
The CCTV would've shown the Item picked, packed and taken to their dispatch area ready for pickup & delivery. In their "dispatch", It's still In their warehouse and the Item/package would have obviously remained without any signs of tampering. However, what happened In "transit" Is beyond their capability to check for Inconsistencies.
Sure, they can view real-time delivery on their online portal, but that's only tracking where the package Is at that given moment, and nothing more.
