he’s saying sony have asked him to return to currys, hes asking me if i’ve found the receipt, should i tell him i’ve lost it? as far as i know you can still return an item without a receipt if its faulty, i’m just worried they will tell him they’re blacklisted and take them off him.

Tell him you don't have the receipt (lost It, received as a gift or otherwise) and leave It at that.

yeah you’re right, i feel bad for the guy but not much i can do. Is there any other companies can blacklist items like this other than Bose & Sony? don’t want to run into this issue again.
