Hey guys,
So as I want to get more into detail of hacking as I am a 'scriptkiddie' and I openly admit that I do/did rely on other peoples programs to use to hack and I feel abit guilty but that's to see if it was for me and if I did have the 'manhood' to be able to do it, anyways my imperial question is basically:

What is the best program to start learning for a beginner/'scriptkiddie' like myself, I have heard a few times Perl is best,
and was assigned to read an e-book about it, which I will do.

I tried to download Perl but it seems to be 'PerlCritic' that I can only download as the stable version is tar format and I used WinRAR to extract it but I couldn't find the setup.exe file, I am running on Windows and I believe that .tar is maybe Linux/Unix?
Don't quote me on that one though.

Anyways, opinions please (also links to download page appreciated, but not important as I'm not lazy)

O/T: I am a patient individual that will only go onto the next task until I have FULLY realised and understand and give a practical evidence to be able to back up my own theory to myself that I can actually do that task given to me, if that makes sense.

It really depends on what you want to do. For example, if you want to make webapps, dont learn c++. And vice versa. If you are going for a very readable language, go for python. Here is the link: http://www.python.org/

Perl is a good language for the start to create some helping skripts. It is relatively concise, it doesn't have so much clutter like Java that you have to write to create a working program, but you don't understand as a beginner. It has strong capabilities in text processing and it allows you some freedom in the way to write things (the inventor was a linguist and said to himself, why not make a programming language that is a bit like a real spoken language).

If you just want to learn how to program and don't have any special goals what you want to do with that language, it really doesn't matter that much which one you take. Choose one you have a lot support for (teachers, books, ...). If that's Perl then go.
Note that "hacking" is not a special goal in this case. It is too wide of a topic. You would have to tell what kind of "hacking" you want to do. So if you have certain goals, tell us.

There you see implementations for Windows. I tried strawberry Perl some time ago and it worked well for me.

Don't just make Hacking a barrier for programming, You can do more stuff with it!
If you want to make exploits then probably Perl is a good choice.

I mis-spoken or mis-understood, I don't want to start coding just for hacking but it's one of the main reasons for it, I think my ultimate goal is to hack into websites and gain root.

@Deque It was your post you said to someone that made me go and download Perl, not quite sure what you said but it pretty much inspired me in a weird way, you also provided a link for a e-book to fully learn and understand Perl, which I did abit of reading, (not much) - so thankyou.

To pretty much everyone who asks me "Which language should I choose?" I always recommend Python. It's easy, strong, and it teaches you good programming habits.

You stated above that you want to hack websites and gain root access to the server. In that case I will recommend you to startout with PHP instead. after that move on to Javascript and then SQL. If you want to create applications for desktops or small/or larger scripts I would recommend you to start out with Python.

start with HTML and then you can go on JavaScript Or on PHP.

-)If you want to code Net Applications/Programms,start with
VB.net/C# .
VisualBasic is very easy Language and i think that you will not have problems.

It really depends what you are into.

I would either start with Python, HTML, or Java. Java is the hardest of the three, but when you wrap your mind around it, it is not that hard to learn.
