So pretty much 1/5 times I leave my laptop and come back to it... it's just a black screen and I cannot turn it on. The lights are on and everything, but no display. The only thing I can do is hold down the power button to turn it off and turn it back on again. I had this issue sometimes with my last Asus laptop so... I'm thinking it's my fault for buying another computer from the same company orrrrr it's a Windows 10 Home problem.... I wouldn't mind buying a Win 10 pro if it'd fix this stupid ass problem. Inputs would be great!

I don't think it's a problem with Asus, or a discrepancy between Windows 10 Home or Pro. Windows has some weird tendencies with its sleep settings, so the best thing I can recommend would be tweaking those.

Try configuring your power/display settings and ensure you have the correct/updated drivers. My laptop (HP) requires a driver to have some type of power control. Without it, I couldn't adjust brightness, etc.

On the grounds you've exhausted all avenues, whether It's a hardware or software Issue, the only way you'll know for sure Is to format your system and only run the bare essentials (drivers) and leave It running as per your normal usage.

If It's a recent lappy, It'll have the OEM (manufacturers) recovery partition, whereby you boot Into the recovery environment (namely "Reset this PC") and select from the following two options:

* Keep my files- As the name suggests, It keeps all your personal files but all apps/settings are removed.
* Remove everything- It does just that, similar to a clean Install.

If It comes to this, I suggest you begin with the first option (Keep my files) and take It from there.

There's so many possibilities as to the cause, I'm just curious to know the outcome and more Importantly, getting your system back to It's optimal state.

I think Asura was right. I entered some code on command prompt to stop my pc from sleeping or whatever as I was making a backup and I didn't want it interrupted. I gotta find the code to take that thing off and see if the problem persists

Either that, or If you have Restore points available, you can hit a System Restore obviously back to the time when you didn't apply the change via the command prompt.
