In my opinion all the Linux DE are dying and this is exactly what happened to Ubuntu 11+, fedora 15+ and others.
I moved to Arch Linux a year ago using XFCE4 and I am loving it. Powerful repository and yet complex structure.
Arch is a beauty.

This is out of date and therefore won't help you anymore. Arch has changed a lot since this tutorial was created. Have a look into the ArchWiki to get a recent beginner installation tutorial: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners%27_Guide

It might be good if a mod closes this thread.
