For testing purposes to see how vulnerable users are, I've performed Catfishing successfully on Facebook many times over. I stopped before It reached to a serious level.
There was no malicious Intent whatsoever on my part. My fake FB account has over 250 friends and counting- of which I have no Idea who these friends are.
It's beyond the scope of this post to cover everything, so I've only covered the basics.
Here's how you begin.
* Create a fictitious Facebook account (obviously) and allow It to mature.
* In the Interim, gradually hit friend requests and let It populate to a decent amount.
* Post all types events- where you've been, what you've purchased, Images etc (evidently fake).
* Tag users, share Images, like posts and so forth.
* All the above will now have the appearance of a legit account.
* Select and
"analyze" your target.
* Post similar Interests, likes and so forth (on your account) as your target. This Is VERY Important. The more commonalities, the better your chances In succeeding your objective.
* Like a few of their posts, but do NOT overdo It.
* When In conversation, praise your target and predominantly focus on "their" happenings rather than your own. This will provide a sense of reassurance, thus keep the conversation at a mutual level.
* If you're a female, post as that gender would normally do so. The same applies with males.
* Add emoticons during your conversation (love hearts etc) that'll entice your target to remain attached.
* All steps thereafter, depend on the nature of the conversation and where It's heading at the time.
As said, I cannot possibly cover every detail, therefore It's quite basic.
