Advice for SE High-End GPU #1
Hi,

I've recently purchased a brand new GTX1660 on Amazon for about 230USD and am planning to SE an upgrade.

The 1660 has about the same dimensions as higher-end GPUs (eg. 2080Ti, 2080, 2080Super) and I am planning to order one of them and return it with the 1660 in the box instead (and swapping the serial number stickers on the GPUs), saying that the high-end GPU that I bought was dead on arrival. All GPUs are sold by Amazon too. Is this likely to work?

I'm wondering if I should opt for a cheaper GPU  (2080 for $790) instead of the highest-end GPU(2080Ti for $1250) for a better chance of success? I have also considered purchasing a renewed 2080Ti and claim that I received a 1660 in it but unfortunately, Amazon doesn't ship renewed products out of the US. Was also wondering if I should deliberately damage the 1660 I have, saying that it was shipping damage that spoilt the GPU so that any testing on their side (which is most likely to happen due to the value of the item?) wouldn't reveal that it's a different item being returned.

Would appreciate any advice from you guys!

Thanks Smile

You've listed too many alternatives, with an array of probable outcomes.

Please choose a single option & method, and we'll work from there.

The most ideal option was for me to get the 2080Ti and then return it due to it being dead on arrival but send back a 1660 instead, which has the same dimensions as the 2080Ti. Will damaging the 1660 that I intend to send back in the return be more beneficial for my case?

If you damage the Item, It will give them reason to check It (to see whether It's deemed as a company write-off), which In turn will be Identified as the Incorrect Item returned.

That's the point (In this case) of returning an Incorrect Item- to give the appearance as though It's the one purchased.

Thanks for the advice. Will not go the damaged item route then.

So just to clarify the process:
1. I order the 2080Ti and wait for it to be delivered.
2. I contact Amazon to say that I've received a 1660 instead, which is a wrong item.
3. Send the 1660 in its full box to Amazon
4. They will accept it and refund me for the 2080Ti

I've also checked on Amazon and I've realised that the weights of these two GPUs are not exactly the same.
1660: Item Weight - 1.96 pounds, Shipping Weight - 3 pounds
2080Ti: Item Weight - 1.46 pounds, Shipping Weight - 3.89 pounds

Their boxes are identical though except for the model number on the box (GTX 1660 vs RTX 2080Ti). Will this be an issue?

Will this method work for such a high-value item and should I be using the same account/address to order both GPUs?

Weights are a fair bit off each other, see if you can stuff the packaging with something they wouldn't notice to match weight (eg. cut a slit in the foam material the GPU sits in and fill it with something). Also no, you wouldn't want to use the same account. Order it on 2 completely separate accounts to 2 different addresses. If you can't do 2 different addresses, order the false GPU off another site.

that being said, why dont you se a gpu straight from asus with AR or HP, just get a serial put hp care on it and enjoy a free gpu. There are also many more methods to get a gpu.. Hope i helped Wink

An Investigation can Identify accounts that're linked, hence If you're ordering from the same company, you must use different accounts.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Will try to do the wrong item received method. Only issue left right now is to figure out what item to get.

Just to clarify, the item doesn't have to look alike at all? Just has to weigh the same? And which weight should I be looking at? Shipping Weight or Item Weight? Item weights listed on Amazon seem to be quite inaccurate though.

Nonetheless, I can also weigh the item myself when it arrive. Should I be weighing the gpu alone or with the Amazon shipping box that the item arrives in?

I went on HP's website and I can see HP Care for their individual laptops and PC's but I didn't see it anywhere for just a GPU. Are you saying get an HP computers SN and register for HPcare with it? Also checked out asus and I didn't see any paid protection plan type program. Looks like asus has the rapid replacement program I'm guessing thats what "AR" is referring to? Their replacement program requires a carrd on file which I'm assuming a VGC carrd or privacy carrd would work for an SE.
