I'm not saying that you shouldnt support the shows, but Funimation often does a poor job at both subs and dubs. Dubs in particular. Dragon maid comes to mind, where all the lesbian undertones were completely removed. There was no need to alter the message that much. If they want my money, they need to offer me a product worth paying for. If you do pirate shows, by all means go out and buy the merch, figures, etc.

Reminds me of the stuff 4Kids did to cartoons. Either way, anime would not be as prevalent in the US without Funimation and other localization companies. Even if the dubs are bad, they are supporting the original creators as well.
