@mothered

Thank you in advance.

I personally modify everything other than the tracking bar code.
If you don't modify address, you have a risk of them tracing your package to your order.
If you do modify address, you have a risk of them claiming to never receive your package and go into long-drawn investigations - though I suppose this can also happen even with original address.

But you leave the barcodes unmodified, no?
I know for a fact that at least for some couriers, the barcode (that supposedly the courier uses to scan and update the tracking) is exactly the tracking. I mean if you read it with a barcode reader you get the same tracking number you put in the website to get the updates. So basically if they don't throw away the package, all they have to do is to read the barcode with a simple barcode reader and the get the tracking, and from there to your order.

Correct. The tracking number barcode will always contain the tracking number itself. So if you send it to the company, they have the ability to scan the tracking number and link it to your order. This is exactly what I meant when I said "you have a risk of them tracing your package to your order." This is only if you get a prepaid label from them though. With your own label, it's highly unlikely they'll just keep around an empty package, or maintain a list of tracking numbers with empty packages. Whether they actually search through tracking number depends company to company. Not many companies search through tracking numbers (yet). As they get raped more by FTID, I'm sure that'll eventually change.
