Honestly for food items, the company never asks for the product returned because opened food packages could be dangerous as it could attract insects or develop fungus or something of that sort. I have never experienced a company ask me for the remaining food.

Whilst you have a very valid point, unfortunately, some companies like this do In fact require the return.

In such cases, simply say that you've consumed the lot and felt extremely sick thereafter.
