This is my draft so far, "I went to my local FedEx office and asked them if I could ship the laptop. I had to mention that I was sending it in for inspection because of the faulty battery. I showed them the way the battery was expanding and they said they couldn't ship it because they considered it a hazardous item. Mainly because of the possibility of it exploding or catching fire mid transit. I can try USPS or UPS, hoping they don't have the same issue as FedEx."
Please keep us updated.
It's very well worded.
The objective Is to either convince them not to send the Item, or dispatch It via a non-tracking service.
This is the email I sent out. I read that Lithium-Ion batteries emit a sweet/chemical-y smell when punctured and are fairly toxic if inhaled or if the laptop is charged or used. So, I plan on using that to my advantage. "I asked the same FedEx office again if they could ship it and they still denied me, stating the same reason as before... I also went to UPS and they too denied shipping this, I haven't had the chance to ask USPS though. I can try a different FedEx office and see what the result is. The electronic store that I gave this to before told me to be careful handling this laptop too. It was emitting this strange, slightly sweet, chemical-y smell and they mentioned that this type of battery gives off a specific smell if they begin to leak and is dangerous if left like it is. Even the postal workers took note of the smell too... With the battery in this state, I'm very nervous moving this thing around. Would it be possible to ship it without the battery? Or do you need the whole laptop?"
If he agrees with my suggestion to remove the battery, my plan is to say that I cannot remove the battery even after suggesting it. I plan to say something along these lines: "I tried to remove the battery but there's a screw at the bottom of the battery that isn't coming out, no matter how hard I try. Maybe the swelling of the battery lodged the screw in weird or messed up the screw hole. I don't want to force it out because I might accidentally puncture or damage the battery further and have some sort of accident." I hope he goes in this direction because it seems like this might be nearing the end. I'll either suggest that USPS can accept the laptop or he'll stop me from trying to send the laptop in altogether.
EDIT: It's been about an hour and he responded with: "We need the machine to check it. It would be preferred to have the battery if this is source of issue." So, tomorrow, I will say that USPS is willing to ship the laptop but either fail to mention that it has tracking or say that the package doesn't have a tracking number.
