If I recall Amazon process your refund on intake meaning as soon as they get any box they'll send you your money. The likelihood of them actually searching the box depends on the worker I guess.

If its gunk from the plastic wearing down I don't think you can really get that stuff off. Dust maybe a powerful air compressor?
