In a case of having a S/N and the item is above $100, Is that still a doable?

Yeah of course
Anything is doable depending on skill.
But for beginners I recommend something not fairly expensive, because Logitech's just more likely to ask you to send it in. If you're willing to box, you can go for pricier items.
