I can't follow any tutorials step by step so the best way for me to learn Java was having an idea then working on that.

I work In a very similar fashion.

In 20+ years of computing, I've yet to use a single tutorial as a primary means of guidance. Everything I do, Is visualized and translated Into It's digital form or otherwise.
