Not sure why people are obsessed over it, I think it needs improvements.

For instance, it would be best if you could see other travelers/trainers while traveling...

This is fine for less populated areas, but areas like central park which is a clusterfuck of pokemon will lag your game if you had to see all the pokemon AND the hordes of trainers there.

Not exactly, after the Osu! meetup me and a few others went to central park, they took the opportunity to hang out until 11PM hunting and their phones seemed just fine.

But surely there were other people there too. It's fine as it is now but if they enabled you to see other people's characters in games then it would be a little crowded.
