I have seen these people play. Just because someone is skilled at smash bros doesnt make it something its not. Smash bros lacks the core fundimentals that make a true fighting game. The entire way that smash bros is setup is different.  Every character does the same thing. Go in, combo, launch, repeat. Fighting games have multiple characters, multiple play styles, counters, combo breakers etc. Smash has none of those things.

"A fighting game is a genre of video game in which a gamer battles against another character controlled by another gamer or the game's artificial intelligence (AI). Fighting games often feature special moves that are triggered through rapid sequences of button presses or associated mouse or joystick movements."

sounds like smash bros to me

"oh the button inputs aren't rapid"

try SHFFLing (short hop, aerial, fastfall, L-cancel). Its complex dude. lol.

it falls under a fighting game lol
