You can't fight a ton of heavily armed soldiers willing to die for their cause with a computer.

You may not be able to win with a computer, but you can certainly affect their communication, organisation, transport, supplies through the use of a computer. If they use computers for their operations, I can't see why disrupting those actions would not affect them.
