Well, my opinion on them varies quite a lot depending on what aspects of the language we are talking about. Ill keep it simple and about which one is the best to start with...

and in my opinion - That is Python. Its not my favourite language... hell, i dont even code in it any more, hell i never spent much time on it... but i believe as a self-taught language it gives you a good solid basis to move onto most other languages, including C++, Java, PHP, etc. with relative ease
