Not exactly near death, but... When I lived in Brazil, I had caught a bad case of Dengue fever. I didn't know I had it. I figured I was just sweaty/fatigued because of the humidity and a lack of sleep. Took a hot shower, started feeling light-headed, and passed out on the tile in my bathroom. Woke up an hour later and went to the hospital. They kept me for several days on IV to rehydrate and monitor vitals.
