i have smashed the corner of the bottle now boots are asking for this to be raised with the manufacturer, should i go forward with this?

your contract is with the retailer. if you receive a damaged item the retailer is welcome to carry out whichever checks they like with the manufacturer, but they (boots) are solely responsible for providing a resolution.
