What do you mean exactly by that? I received an email stating the following:

I have just checked this for you, and see that the return has now arrived and has been processed. I do not want to keep you waiting any longer, so I have just arranged a refund. The amount will be refunded to the bank account you used when placing the order, and you will see it appear within 5 work days.

You will receive a confirmation of the refund via email.

They've confirmed the refund, but you haven't received the final confirmation via email, which Is the same thing - the refund Is forthcoming.

I never received the supposed confirmation email. Is this something to be worried about? Did they actually issue the refund or not?

As stated above, the refund has been confirmed, so you will receive It.

It might not be. Usually after that sort of confirmation from the rep, an actual refund confirmation page comes within the next 12 hours. I can confirm that even with a closed account, that official refund page should still be sent.
