[mothered]

I was informed by another user of the forum, that  it could somehow be possible to double dip by using the serial number and contacting the company that manufactures the product. Is this a viable option? if so, what steps could I take to execute this?

There are a number of methods available, but you haven't stated the Item In question.

Given It contains a serial, It's a tech-based product so claim that It's defective and when they request the return, box them. That's provided the Item Is of reasonable size and weight.
