The thing is - people want classic WoW. The WoW that was from the beginning.
But WoW is built on progress. They need to release new content every new patch,
otherwise people will just sit there, maxed out level, maxed out gear,
create toon after toon and yeah.
So.
The big question now is: Will WoW continue classic with ALL expsnsions, or,
will they create new content, that is going to be meant as 'classic' WoW content?
But this is what many classic fans hate. They think that this will become WoW retail 2.0,
exactly the same asWoW retail, but that its classic, but with fresh content.
Its strange really. What do you think, @Oni ?
Personally I dont even play classic, but I only play retail.![]()
It's a real question. I don't know when they'll stop adding expansions and say "this is where we messed up". Maybe Cataclysm?
I would take major issue with them adding new content to Classic. Other games (like Runescape) have fragmented their playerbase by doing similar. For Runescape, they determined 2007 was the point they wanted to return the game to, and Old School is a fork from then. Once a game creates a fork and starts adding new content, it only causes further divide among the playerbase. It splits the developer team and veteran players either have to start fresh or get left behind.
I've played every expansion since Vanilla, but I won't be sticking around if they do a fork like Runescape did. It's bad for the game. Best case scenario, Classic remains in a pre-Cataclysm bubble without new content or lore. Going forward Blizzard should take notes of what was and wasn't successful in previous expansions. Rolling back 8 expansions then starting from scratch would be an awful route to take.
Yeah, exactly what I was thinking about. They dont want classic to become WoW retail 2.0. But there doesnt seem to be much of an option. Should they just let the game be, and fork it every once in a while? Not the greatest idea, to be honest. But its not going to be classic anymore once they have gotten past WotLK (? spelling ?) and the players get used to p stuff that was popular way back in time. Also, classic doesnt have the same type of playerbase as retail, its more of the hardcore WoW veterans that used to play when WoW first came out. But they are surely easy to disapoint.
